Work Under Way on $5.75bn Logan-Gold Coast Faster Rail

Construction is under way on the $5.75-billion Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project, marking a significant step forward in boosting capacity between Greater Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments, the project will deliver more frequent and reliable services between the state’s capital and the Gold Coast—Australia’s third and sixth-largest cities, respectively.

The works follow the awarding of the design and pre-construction contract in 2025 and will be delivered by the ActivUs Alliance, comprising CPB Contractors, UGL, Acciona, SMEC and WSP, in partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Queensland Rail.

CPB Contractors executive general manager Qld, WA, SA and NT Glenn McIlroy said the project would deliver increased rail network capacity, improved train service reliability and reduced end-to-end journey times.

The project will double the number of tracks along the 20km corridor between Kuraby and Beenleigh—currently a key bottleneck where trains share a single track in each direction, causing peak-hour delays when express and all-stop services intersect.

Upgrades include new and improved tracks and rail systems, station upgrades across nine stations, five level crossing removals, local road network changes, improved walking and cycling connections, enabling works for the European Train Control System and the extension of the cattle siding at Holmview.

Once complete, the upgrades are expected to unlock additional services, improve safety and reduce congestion for rapidly growing communities in South-East Queensland.

Stations in line for upgrades are Kuraby, Trinder Park, Woodridge, Kingston, Loganlea, Bethania, Edens Landing, Holmview and Beenleigh.
